Divorce is a sensitive issue. But in some cases, we have to think about the possibility of the end of the marriage.
Just out of curiosity, I checked the basic information about divorce in the U.S.
https://www.mass.gov/divorce
There are several types of divorce:
(1) Contested or Uncontested
(2) Fault or no-fault
It depends on the state, but generally in the U.S., if there is a period of separation, people can file a no-fault divorce, even the other party disagrees with the divorce.
Marital Settlement Agreement is the agreement made between divorcing spouses.
This is a sample agreement.

In the agreement, following items are considered:
1 Custody and Visitation
2 Child Support
3 Spousal Support
4 Property
5 Residence
6 Retirement Benefits
7 Other Properties
8 General Provisions
Checking various types of agreements is helpful to update myself.
